She was born within the Matrix, to the parents of the now-deceased Jue and Thadeus, First Mate and Captain of the Osirus, respectively. When Jue was extracted with Thadeus, their baby was staying with Jue's parents at the time it happened. Of course, Jue's parents were scared, their daughter and future son-in-law had disappeared without a trace, and the very worst was feared. Care of Jade alternated between Jue's and Thadeus's parents until Jade was six months old.
Both of Jade's parents planned their daughter's extraction very carefully, knowing the extraction of an infant had never been attempted before, knowing the high risk involved. On the evening they chose to extract Jade, both sets of parents were attending an event held by Thadeus's older brother in an attepmt to bring life back to both families, now united not only by loss, but by a grandchild. Unfortunately, the event turned tragic; Agents followed Jue and Thadeus to the event, and a bloodbath ensured. The two Redpills barely escaped with their lives, and the life of their child.
Aided by Morpheus, with Agents in hot pursuit, the trio made their way to the designated extraction point, an abandoned office building, now the home of derilects of all manner. Somehow, some way, Jade was given the red pill, and they successfully traced her position.
Six-month-old Jade nearly drowned when she was releasd down the drain chute. Thadeus dove into the water after her, and managed to draw her to the surface before her tiny body ran out of oxegyn.
Over the next seven years, until their deaths, Jue and Thadeus raised Jade to be a kind, gentle girl. However, Jade had inherited a fierce determination from her mother, and a hard edge from her father that only came to the fore when she was peeved. She had a love of flying, like Jue, and a strong sense of loyalty, from both parents. All she wanted to do was to fly, to follow in her parents footsteps when she grew up, and she bagged them inceasently for the chance to ride with them on a mission. On occaision, she would get to go, too, but only if they weren't going far. But they never told her what the plug in the back of her head was for.
The night that the Osirus was attacked by Sentinals and destroyed, Jade was staying with Zee and Link (Link who later became operator for the Nebuchadnezzer). She had had a feeling something was going to go wrong on that day since the moment she woke that morning. She could see her parents felt it, too. When they left, they cuddled Jade close, as if for the last time, though Jade was not to know why they seemed so desperate, so reluctant to leave.
The moment the Osirus was destroyed will always have an impact on the rest of Jade's life. She blacked out at the exact moment the Osirus blew up, and has been told since that she had screamed, "They're dead! They're all dead!" before breaking into tears and crying with absolute abandon, though she remembers nothing of that day. To this day, Jade sometimes dreams of a moment of indescribable terror and pain, and wakes up screaming, with an indelible sense of loss washing over her.
Despite all of this, since her parent's deaths, Jade has become highly self-sufficient for her age. She has trained her mind as well as she can with only Zee there oftentimes to help her. She still wants to fly in a hovercraft when she comes of age, and continiously hounds Commander Lock into letting her go on a mission, but he always refuses to allow it. But Jade will not give up - she spends her days either with the Commander or, more often, on the Docks, hoping against hope a Captain will ask her to come with them. She still continues her "training," though she cannot yet begin to train for any kind of military application. Recently, she has begun to find pleasure in going down to the treatment plant in the evenings, listening to the soft humming of the machines doing their work.
