| History | He started out life as a payphone program in a subway station. Ironically, he was the very same payphone that Trinity and Morpheus jacked out from, years ago, when the legandary Neo freed Morpheus from the Agents, with Trinity's help. Remnant watched the sequence of events from Neo's and Smith's fight in the subway, and he drew some conclusions from it. Having also witnessed Agent Smith's takeover of the helpless street-bum sleeping in the subway at the time (and having a piece of himself blown apart when Smith shot the earpiece of the phone), Remnant developed an instant dislike for his programmers and anything related to them.
Over a number of weeks, he watched numerous Redpills enter the subway and heard their (they thought) private discussions on the situation in Zion and the Matrix, and eventually, the time came when he made his descision to leave his intended purpose - as a payphone. This descision was helped along by a Redpill being killed by an Agent in front of him, and - again - having a piece of himself blown apart by the Agent's weapon.
